Season 3
This season features compelling, one-on-one conversations with a broad range of guests including comedian and producer Judd Apatow, poet and Director of the National Museum of African American History and Culture Kevin Young, Administrator to USAID Samantha Power, actress and Youtuber Lilly Singh, and Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts, among many other esteemed guests. Hosted by four-time New York Times bestselling author Kelly Corrigan, the show delves deep into the lives of each guest to highlight how their experiences can help audiences better understand our world and ourselves.
In addition to the conversation Kelly has with each guest, a critical feature of the program is the “Plus One” segment. Corrigan invites her guests to share a “Plus One” — an individual they personally or professionally know, admire and respect, and who've influenced their lives. MSNBC / NBC news journalist Richard Lui cites Tiffany Perata, who Richard interviewed during a mass shooting in El Paso, Texas in which she risked her life to warn others about the danger. Professor of Divinity and stage four cancer fighter Kate Bowler recognizes author Suleika Jaouad, whose career took an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with leukemia and began writing a New York Times column, “Life, Interrupted” from her hospital bed. Actress and playwright Anna Deavere Smith speaks to the power of playwright, Ntozake Shange who wrote for Colored Girls and other plays whose melodies and rhythms continue to be used by black female actresses today. This segment emphasizes that we don’t get anywhere alone and the ripple effect of influential words and work.
Seven of the episodes will further be supplemented by companion videos which speak to the greater overarching themes discussed with selected guests and what we can learn from the important issues of grief, resilience, hope, happiness, character, and perseverance so well-illustrated through the stories of this season's guests.
